What the ATS score measures, and how much each part counts

Four categories, 35 checks, weights published. Every check names the parser behaviour or recruiter habit it comes from, and the same file always gets the same score. No AI guesses the number.

35Parse fidelityWill the ATS fill the right fields? Text layer, columns, tables, contact details in the header, dates on every role.
30FindabilityWill a recruiter's search find you? Skills named the way recruiters search, abbreviations spelled out, evidence in bullets, CTC and notice period.
25ImpactWill a human get it in seven seconds? Strong verbs, numbers, bullet length, weak openers.
10LanguageSpelling with a technical allow-list, tense, pronouns, one date format.

Every check, its weight and its source is published on the How we score page. Rubric v1.0.

Does a low ATS score mean rejection? No.

An ATS is a database with a parser and a search box. The only automatic rejection is a knockout question on the application form. Resumes lose in two ways: the parser fills the wrong fields, or the recruiter's search never surfaces them. That is exactly what this score measures. It is also why other checkers give you a different number: they measure different things, and most will not tell you what.

92%of 25 surveyed recruiters never auto-reject on resume content
100%use knockout questions on the form instead
10%of two-column resumes still parse wrongly at the market-leading parser
0emails, accounts or paywalls between you and every check

Questions people ask about ATS scores

How do I check the ATS score of my resume?+

Upload the PDF or Word file above, or paste the text. In about 10 seconds you get a score out of 100 and every check behind it: what the parser read, which fields it filled, which skills a recruiter's search would find, and what to fix first. No signup, and you can check again as often as you like.

What is a good ATS score?+

Over 80 means the file parses cleanly and reads well; 60–79 means the flagged items are worth an evening; under 60 usually means something structural, like columns, a table around your experience or a scanned PDF, is breaking the parse. No recruiter sees this number. It is a checklist, not a verdict.

Why do other checkers give me a different number?+

Because they measure different things and most do not say what. We ran one resume through eight checkers on the same afternoon and got 70, 72, 80 and 85. Our rubric is published on the How we score page with the weight of every check, and the same file always gets the same score here.

Does a low score mean an ATS will reject me?+

No. An ATS is a database with a parser and a search box. The only automatic rejection is a knockout question on the application form. In a 2025 survey of 25 recruiters, 92% said they never auto-reject on resume content. Resumes lose because the parser fills the wrong fields or the recruiter's search never finds them. That is what this score measures.

Which ATS do Indian employers use?+

Naukri RMS and Resdex for sourcing; Zoho Recruit, Keka, Darwinbox and freshteam in mid-market companies; Workday, SAP SuccessFactors, Taleo and iCIMS at the large IT services firms and GCCs. The checks here are based on what those parsers document about their own failures.

I am a fresher. Does the score work for me?+

Yes. Fresher mode switches on automatically when there is no dated employment: projects and internships count as experience, the length checks relax, and CGPA or percentage is never penalised. Toggle it on the result page if we guessed wrong.

Should I remove my photo and date of birth?+

For private-sector and MNC roles, yes: parsers skip images and both are bias signals that some ATS store. For government and PSU formats they are often expected. Switch to Govt/PSU mode on the result page and the flags change meaning.

Is my resume stored?+

Yes, so you can re-check it, get the AI report and be matched if you ask to be. It stays until you ask us to remove it from the Delete my data page, and we do that within a day. Nothing is sold and nobody is contacted without a separate, explicit consent.

Is a two-column resume bad for ATS?+

Risky, not fatal. Textkernel, the parser under iCIMS and SAP, moved clean renders of column CVs from 62% to 90% with machine learning, which still leaves one in ten reading wrongly. We show you exactly how the columns interleave in the What the ATS read tab.

PDF or Word?+

Either, as long as it is a text PDF or a .docx. Every major ATS accepts both. The real failure is an image PDF: a scan, a photo, or a design-tool export with no text layer.

How is the AI report different from the score?+

The score is deterministic rules, no AI, free and unlimited. The AI report uses a language model to explain your findings, decode your keyword gaps and rewrite bullets, using only facts already in your resume. It is free too, sent to your email so we can limit abuse.
