How scoring works

A rubric you can read, not a black box you have to believe.

Four weighted categories, 35 checks. Every check is deterministic: the same resume scores the same on every run, and every point lost is tied to a line in your file.

Why these weights. Parse fidelity carries 35 points because it is binary in practice: if the ATS cannot read your file, nothing else you wrote exists. Findability is next because recruiters search before they read. Impact is what a human judges in the seven seconds they give a resume. Language is last because a typo has never lost anyone an interview that the other three would have won.

What “deterministic” buys you. No check asks an AI to guess. Each one is a rule you can read on the How we score page, with the source it comes from — a Workday parsing note, a Lever search behaviour, a Naukri recruiter's filter. Upload the same file tomorrow and the number is identical, so when it moves, you moved it.

What the score is not. No mainstream ATS rejects a candidate on a score, and we never say otherwise. This measures whether the software can read you, whether search can find you, and whether a person will get it quickly. That is what you can control.

What the parser actually sees

Your two-column template reads as one scrambled column.

Most ATS parsers read left to right across the whole page, not down each column. Skills end up inside your job descriptions, dates detach from roles, and icon bullets vanish. We show you the exact text that came out — before a recruiter does.

what you designed
what the ATS read

12 lines in → 12 lines out, interleaved · 3 icon bullets dropped

Why it happens. A PDF stores glyphs at coordinates, not paragraphs. Parsers rebuild reading order from those coordinates, and most of them assume a single column. The sidebar you built for skills and contact details is read as interruptions in your work history.

What we do about it. The “What the ATS read” tab shows the extracted text in the order it came out, with dropped content struck through and misplaced content highlighted. The fix is usually a single-column export of the same content — five minutes, often +8 to +15 points.

Built for the Indian job market, works for anyone

The flags other checkers don't know to look for.

Resume conventions that are normal on Naukri and harmful in a Workday, Greenhouse or Lever pipeline. We flag them, explain the trade-off, and tell you when to keep them.

IN-1

CTC and LPA in the file

Salary on a resume is an Indian habit and a red flag abroad. It anchors negotiations early and can trip bias filters. Keep it for Naukri-driven hiring, remove it for any global application or employer portal.

IN-2

Photo, date of birth, marital status

Standard on template resumes here; parsed as noise, or a compliance risk, by most ATS abroad. Photos are skipped by parsers entirely and can bias a human reader before they reach your first bullet.

IN-3

Marks tables and declaration blocks

A 10th/12th marks table becomes a run of unlabelled numbers in the parsed text. The “I hereby declare” block costs a line the recruiter never reads. Both matter for freshers, which is why fresher mode scores them differently.

Shown on the result page under India flags; never counted in the score. Every flag and both readings.

How do I check the ATS score of my resume?+

Upload the PDF or Word file above, or paste the text. In about 10 seconds you get a score out of 100 and every check behind it: what the parser read, which fields it filled, which skills a recruiter's search would find, and what to fix first. No signup, and you can check again as often as you like.

What is a good ATS score?+

Over 80 means the file parses cleanly and reads well; 60–79 means the flagged items are worth an evening; under 60 usually means something structural, like columns, a table around your experience or a scanned PDF, is breaking the parse. No recruiter sees this number. It is a checklist, not a verdict.

Why do other checkers give me a different number?+

Because they measure different things and most do not say what. We ran one resume through eight checkers on the same afternoon and got 70, 72, 80 and 85. Our rubric is published on the How we score page with the weight of every check, and the same file always gets the same score here.

Does a low score mean an ATS will reject me?+

No. An ATS is a database with a parser and a search box. The only automatic rejection is a knockout question on the application form. In a 2025 survey of 25 recruiters, 92% said they never auto-reject on resume content. Resumes lose because the parser fills the wrong fields or the recruiter's search never finds them. That is what this score measures.

Is it free?+

Yes. The score, all the checks and unlimited re-checks are free and need no account. During launch the AI report and job match are included as well; the pricing page shows what the paid plan will look like later.

Which ATS do Indian employers use?+

Naukri RMS and Resdex for sourcing; Zoho Recruit, Keka, Darwinbox and freshteam in mid-market companies; Workday, SAP SuccessFactors, Taleo and iCIMS at the large IT services firms and GCCs. The checks here are based on what those parsers document about their own failures.

I am a fresher. Does the score work for me?+

Yes. Fresher mode switches on automatically when there is no dated employment: projects and internships count as experience, the length checks relax, and CGPA or percentage is never penalised. Toggle it on the result page if we guessed wrong.

Should I remove my photo and date of birth?+

For private-sector and MNC roles, yes: parsers skip images and both are bias signals that some ATS store. For government and PSU formats they are often expected. Switch to Govt/PSU mode on the result page and the flags change meaning.

Is my resume stored?+

Yes, so you can re-check it, get the AI report and be matched if you ask to be. It stays until you ask us to remove it from the Delete my data page, and we do that within a day. Nothing is sold and nobody is contacted without a separate, explicit consent.

Is a two-column resume bad for ATS?+

Risky, not fatal. Textkernel, the parser under iCIMS and SAP, moved clean renders of column CVs from 62% to 90% with machine learning, which still leaves one in ten reading wrongly. We show you exactly how the columns interleave in the What the ATS read tab.

PDF or Word?+

Either, as long as it is a text PDF or a .docx. Every major ATS accepts both. The real failure is an image PDF: a scan, a photo, or a design-tool export with no text layer.

How is the AI report different from the score?+

The score is deterministic rules, no AI, free and unlimited. The AI report uses a language model to explain your findings, decode your keyword gaps and rewrite bullets, using only facts already in your resume. It is sent to your email so we can limit abuse, and it is included during launch.
