Naukri Profile and Resume: Upload, Headline, Score and the RMS Behind It

To upload a resume on Naukri, log in, hover over My Profile at the top right, click Edit Profile, and use the upload control in the Resume section to choose a PDF or Word file under 2 MB. Those are the steps from Naukri’s own job-seeker FAQ as read on 14 September 2026.¹ The file is only half the job. Recruiters find you on Naukri through Resdex, which searches your profile fields, headline, key skills, designation, experience, CTC, notice period and location, with Boolean strings and no synonym expansion; the PDF is opened after you appear in the results.² This page walks through the upload, the headline and key-skills fields, keeping the profile and the file consistent, and what sits behind the recruiter once you apply.

How to upload or replace your resume on Naukri

Upload from Edit Profile, keep the file under 2 MB, and expect the new file to replace the old one. Naukri’s FAQ gives the route to the profile editor and the file rules; the exact label on the upload button is not in the FAQ, so step 3 describes it generically.¹

On the website:

1. Log in at naukri.com.
2. Hover over My Profile in the top right corner and click Edit Profile.
3. Find the Resume section on the profile page and use its upload or update control.
4. Choose the file: PDF, DOC, DOCX or RTF, under 2 MB. Name it so you can tell versions apart, for example Priya-Sharma-Data-Analyst.pdf.
5. Wait for the section to show the new file name and date.
6. Re-check. Open the profile again and confirm the Resume section shows the file you just uploaded, not the old one.

On the Android app or mobile browser:

1. Tap the menu icon (three lines) at the top left.
2. Tap your profile at the top of the menu.
3. Find the Resume section and use its upload control; pick the same file you would use on desktop.
4. Re-check that the file name and date updated.

If the upload fails, Naukri’s FAQ says three things: reduce the file to under 2 MB, try another of the four formats to see which is smallest, and remove any photo or pictures from the document, adding the photo to the profile separately instead.¹ That last line is worth reading twice: Naukri itself would rather have your photo on the profile than in the file, which is where our rubric puts it too (check P14).

Before the file goes up, check the resume you upload: the same PDF is what a recruiter downloads after the search finds you, and what Naukri RMS or a company ATS parses when you apply.

What should the Naukri resume format be?

A single-column text PDF or DOCX under 2 MB, with contact details in the body, standard headings, Month YYYY dates on every role, a Skills section of plain terms, and one line for CTC and notice period. There is no Naukri-specific format; the file that parses cleanly in Workday or Greenhouse is the file that reads cleanly when a Naukri recruiter opens it.

Fresher resumes carry projects and internships in place of employment; the checker’s fresher mode scores them from those sections. Government and PSU formats are a different case, and Govt/PSU mode on the result page changes what the India flags mean.

How to write the Naukri profile headline

Write one line with your market title, your stack or domain, your years and your city, because Resdex searches the headline field as text. Naukri’s own FAQ calls the headline “usually the first thing that a recruiter notices about your profile” and gives a fresher example, “BA Graduate looking for Sales role in Retail Industry”.¹ For anyone with experience, the words a recruiter types are the title and the tools.

1. Start with the market title for your latest role: Software Engineer, Data Analyst, Product Manager. LinkedIn Recruiter retrieves by standardised title first and Resdex matches the string as typed, so “Code Ninja” and “Tech Enthusiast” find nobody (check F4).
2. Add the two or three terms you want to be found for: “Java, Spring Boot, AWS”.
3. Add years and city: “4 years, Bengaluru”. Both are filters on Resdex; the headline is not where the filter reads them, but a recruiter skimming results is.
4. Remove your college name, “seeking opportunities” and adjectives. None of them are search terms.
5. Make the headline agree with the latest title on the PDF. A headline that says Senior Developer over a resume that says Software Engineer II reads as two people.
6. Re-check by reading the headline as a search string: would a recruiter type each of those words?

A finished headline reads “Data Analyst, SQL and Power BI, 3 years, Pune” or “Backend Developer (Java, Spring Boot, AWS), 5 years, Hyderabad”. Freshers: “B.Tech CSE 2026, Python and SQL, seeking Data Analyst role, Pune” keeps Naukri’s suggested shape and still carries three search terms.

How to fill key skills so Resdex search finds you

Enter key skills as separate terms, the words a recruiter would type, and write both forms of every abbreviation once. Naukri’s FAQ defines key skills as the skills you acquired through education, training and work, and notes that “around the internet, these are variously known as skills, keywords or specialties”.¹ Resdex searches this field with Boolean strings and no synonym expansion: a search for Amazon Web Services does not match a profile that only says AWS.²

1. Copy the terms from your resume’s Skills section, one term per entry: Java, Spring Boot, Microservices, REST APIs, AWS, Docker, SQL.
2. Add the long form where the short form is ambiguous or commonly searched in full: Amazon Web Services, Continuous Integration, Machine Learning. On the PDF, write the long form with the short form in brackets the first time (check F2).
3. Keep sentences out. “Proficient in using Python for analysis” is not a search term; “Python” is.
4. Include the tools the posting names, not the tools the company owns; every entry is a question in the first interview.
5. Re-check with Naukri’s own data. The Profile Performance page under My Naukri lists the search terms for which recruiters found your profile, and Naukri’s FAQ suggests updating your key skills against that list.² If the terms recruiters use are missing from your key skills, add the ones that are true.

How to keep the Naukri profile and the PDF consistent

Make the profile fields and the file agree on title, dates, years of experience, current CTC and notice period, because the search reads the profile and the recruiter reads the file. Resdex filters on experience, CTC, notice period and location from the profile fields; if the notice-period field is blank and the recruiter filters for 30 days or less, you are not in the list, whatever the PDF says.² Our rubric checks the file side of the same facts: F5 (total experience computable and consistent, 3 points) and F10 (CTC and notice period stated, 3 points).³

Steps:

1. Open Edit Profile and the resume side by side.
2. Copy the title, company and Month YYYY dates from the resume into the employment entries, or the other way round; choose the resume as the source of truth.
3. Enter current CTC, expected CTC and notice period on the profile, and add the one-line version to the resume.
4. Set current and preferred location on both.
5. Update the profile every few weeks even if nothing changed; Naukri’s FAQ says recruiters tend to contact recently updated profiles.¹
6. Re-check by running the PDF through the checker and comparing the What the ATS read tab with the profile: same title, same dates, same years.

How recruiters actually search Naukri Resdex

Resdex is Naukri’s recruiter-side database, and a recruiter searching it is querying your profile fields, not reading your PDF: headline, key skills, designation, summary, current organisation, institute, total experience, current and expected CTC, notice period and location. The search takes a Boolean string or Naukri’s three-box EZ Keywords, expands no synonyms, and then applies filters that leave profiles out without telling anyone. The PDF is opened after you appear in the results.

What Resdex is, and what it is not

Naukri sells recruiters two things. A job posting brings applications into Naukri RMS or the company’s own ATS. Resdex is a subscription to search every job-seeker profile on Naukri, whether or not the person applied, and Naukri’s own help page says more than half of hiring on Naukri happens through the database.² Resdex is not an ATS reading your file. Naukri’s support article on keyword search says the keyword box looks in the candidate’s profile, summary of experience, current organisation, designation and educational institute name; the uploaded resume is not on that list.⁴ Treat the PDF as invisible to the search and visible to the human who opens it.

The search box takes Boolean

“Java AND (Spring OR Springboot) NOT fresher” is a normal Monday. Naukri’s default Advanced Search now uses EZ Keywords, three boxes labelled Any, All and Exclude, because, in Naukri’s words, complex Boolean queries were something only expert users could build in a single box; a recruiter can switch back to the one Boolean box in settings.⁵ Either way the match is literal. There is no synonym expansion, so Amazon Web Services and AWS are two different searches, and so are Machine Learning and ML. Write both forms once in key skills and once on the resume, which is what check F2 on our rubric tests.³

The filters that remove you silently

After the keywords come the filters. Naukri’s support page lists experience, annual salary, current location, functional area, industry type and included or excluded employers as Advanced Search criteria, and notice period is a search criterion of its own, including candidates already serving notice.^{4 6} A filter does not reject anyone; it leaves people out of the list.

None of this shows up as a rejection anywhere. The profile simply never appears, and Naukri’s Profile Performance page, which lists the searches you did appear in, is the only trace you get.²

Why the profile fields matter more than the PDF

The sequence on the recruiter’s side is fixed: a search over the fields, a results list built from those fields, a profile preview showing headline, key skills, designation, company, experience, CTC, location and notice period, and only then the resume download. A file that would parse perfectly in Workday cannot rescue an empty key-skills field, because the search never reaches it. The reverse is also true: once the recruiter opens the PDF, a title or a notice period that disagrees with the profile is the first thing they notice, and it costs the call. What this means for the file

A headline that carries the standard title for your role. Key skills as canonical terms, not sentences, with both forms of every abbreviation. CTC and notice period on one line on the resume as well as in the fields, so the two never disagree. City near the contact block. Everything else on the resume is for the human who opens it afterwards, and that is where the impact and language checks earn their points.

What do the Naukri resume score and profile completion numbers mean?

The percentage on your profile is a completion score in which each field carries a weight, and the FastForward resume score is Naukri’s own unpublished quality benchmark; neither is an ATS reading of your file. Naukri’s FAQ says a figure under 100% means important fields are still empty and recommends keeping the score close to 100%.¹ The fields that carry the most obvious weight are the ones Resdex filters on, so finishing the profile is worth an evening. What happens after you apply: Naukri RMS behind the recruiter

When you apply to a posting, Naukri sends the application to the recruiter, who sees your uploaded resume and the profile details you filled in; the software on the recruiter’s side is Naukri RMS or the company’s own ATS. That description of the apply flow is Naukri’s own, from its FAQ on how Naukri works.¹ The same FAQ describes the second route, being found in the database without applying, and Naukri’s help page on its database says more than half of hiring on Naukri happens that way.²

Naukri RMS is Naukri’s applicant-management product for recruiters, which receives applications from Naukri postings and holds the PDF you attached. It parses the file like any other ATS, so a two-column layout, a phone number in a header band and a scanned PDF fail there the way they fail in Workday. We make no claims about how it ranks candidates, because Naukri does not publish that. What Naukri’s recruiter system does with your file is covered on how Naukri RMS parses resumes. One myth to close: neither RMS nor Resdex rejects a resume for its content. The only automatic rejection in mainstream systems is a knockout question on the application form; a resume that parses badly or misses the search terms is invisible, not rejected.

Check the file before you upload it to Naukri

Run the PDF through a checker that shows the extracted text, fix anything under Parse fidelity, then upload it and align the profile fields with it. The completion check for this whole page:
