Jobscan ATS Score Explained: Match Rate, Free Scans and Alternatives

Jobscan's ATS score is a match rate between your resume and one pasted job description, built from hard skills, job title, soft skills, education and other keywords. It needs an account and a job description before it shows anything; the free plan is a handful of scans a month.

The Jobscan ATS score is a match rate, a percentage of overlap between your resume and one pasted job description, built from hard skills, job title, soft skills, education level and other keywords, and Jobscan’s own page recommends 75% while noting that many users succeed at 65%.1 It is not a general resume grade and it does not run without a job description. An account stands before the first result, and the free plan is limited to a few scans a month.

This page is research-based. It describes what Jobscan says on its public pages, read on 14 September 2026, what third-party reviews report about plan limits, and what we observed in the one documented run where we ran one resume through eight checkers on 12 September 2026. ATS Score Checker publishes a competing tool, so weigh this page accordingly.

What does the Jobscan ATS match rate measure?

Keyword overlap with one job posting, weighted across five components. Jobscan’s home page lists what feeds the match rate: hard skills, education level (only when the listing asks for an advanced degree), job title, soft skills and other keywords.1 The resume-checker page adds that the scan runs “over 30 checks” and returns “your match rate percentage, missing keywords, formatting flags, and section analysis”, and it names Greenhouse, Taleo and Workday as systems the tool can tailor advice for.2

Two things the page says that are worth repeating. It calls the match rate “a visualization tool to help you measure the strength of your resume before you apply”, which is honest: no employer sees the number. And it recommends .docx over PDF for applications, a preference that comes from older parser behaviour; every major ATS today accepts a text PDF, and the file that fails is an image PDF with no text layer.

If you have no job description in hand, run the free ATS resume checker here for the parse and format side, then bring the posting to a match tool when you have one; our job-description tab does the same overlap without the account.

What is free on Jobscan and what is Premium?

A free account gives a limited number of match reports; unlimited scans and the full fix list are Premium. Jobscan’s checker page says “generating your Match Report and seeing your initial score is completely free”, and its pricing page redirects to the app, where the plan table did not render for our fetch on 14 September 2026.2 Third-party reviews from 2026 agree on the shape: a free plan of five scans a month that never expires, Premium at $49.95 a month, and a quarterly plan billed $89.95 every three months.3 Treat the figures as reported; the checkout page governs.

In our 12 September run, Jobscan was one of three tools with an account wall before any result, so nothing about the report could be observed without signing up.4 The page copy is consistent with that: the buttons that promise a free scan lead to a signup form.

For an Indian job seeker the arithmetic matters. $49.95 is roughly ₹4,200 a month at 2026 rates, and five free scans cover one or two tailored applications. If you apply to twenty postings in a month, which is normal on Naukri, the free tier runs out in the first week.

How does Jobscan’s match rate differ from a published rubric?

It answers a different question, and it does not show its weights. A match rate asks “how much of this posting’s vocabulary is in this resume”. A parse-and-findability rubric asks “will the ATS fill the right fields from this file, and will a recruiter’s search surface it”. Both are useful; only the second one applies before you have a posting.

We wrote the right-hand column. The fair test is to paste the same posting into both and compare the missing-term lists; ours separates named terms from implied ones so you can see which gaps are real.

Is a 75% Jobscan match rate necessary?

No number of keywords gets you shortlisted; the 75% is Jobscan’s own target for its own metric. Its page says so, and adds that 65% often works. The reason is that a match rate counts words, and a recruiter’s search on Naukri Resdex or LinkedIn Recruiter looks for a handful of terms per role, not the whole posting. Our Findability check F9 makes the same point from the other side: if two of the ten most searched terms for your role are missing, you are missing from those searches, and the remaining forty words of the posting do not change that.

The trap with any match-rate tool is stuffing. Adding every noun from the posting to reach a target raises the percentage and lowers the resume, and any parser will index a white-text keyword block for the recruiter to see (our check P13). Add a term only if you have used the skill, and put it in a bullet that shows what it did (check F3).

Does Jobscan work for Indian job seekers?

For any English posting, yes; for the Indian portal layer, no. Jobscan lists no check for a photo, date of birth, father’s name, a 10th/12th marks table, a declaration block, or CTC and notice period, and it does not model Naukri Resdex, where recruiters search profile fields (headline, key skills, designation, experience, CTC, notice period, location) with literal Boolean strings and no synonym expansion.5 A resume that scores 80% on Jobscan against a Bangalore GCC posting can still fall out of a Resdex search because the Naukri profile’s key-skills field was never updated. The Naukri Resdex search section covers that side.

Where Jobscan is at its best for Indian candidates is the MNC and product-company application through Workday, Greenhouse or Lever, where the recruiter really does search the parsed resume for the posting’s terms.

What are the alternatives to Jobscan?

For match rates: SkillSyncer, Nodeflair and the job-description tab here; for a parse and format check: any tool that shows extracted text. SkillSyncer and Nodeflair both need a pasted posting and return missing keywords; SkillSyncer’s free plan is two scans a week. Resume Worded’s match product is Pro. Our tab shows named, implied and missing terms with no account and no cap.

The hub page Best Free ATS Resume Checkers in India (2026) puts all checkers compared on the same nine criteria, Jobscan and ours included. Whatever you pick, re-check the file after every edit; the parse can change when the layout does.

Questions this article answers

What is a good Jobscan match rate?

Jobscan's own page recommends 75% and notes that many career counsellors and users see success at 65%. It is a keyword-overlap figure for one job posting, not a probability of being shortlisted.

Is Jobscan ATS checker free?

There is a free plan after you create an account. Third-party reviews in 2026 put it at five scans a month; Jobscan's own page says generating the match report and seeing the initial score is free. Unlimited scans and the full fix list are Premium.

Can I use Jobscan without a job description?

No. The match rate is computed against the text of one job listing, so the tool has nothing to compare without it. For a general parse and format check with no posting in hand, use a resume checker rather than a match-rate tool.

Does Jobscan work for Naukri or Indian jobs?

It works on any English job description you paste. It lists no India-specific checks and does not model Naukri Resdex, where recruiters search profile fields with Boolean strings and filter on CTC and notice period.

Jobscan resume score kya hota hai?

Jobscan ka score ek match rate hai: aapke resume aur ek job description ke beech keyword overlap, percent mein. 75% target hai. Yeh ATS ka rejection score nahi hai; koi ATS content par reject nahi karta.
